Supachai Panitchpakdi goes to bat for PhRMA on scope of diseases

People say that the WTO DG Supachai is asking for a small green room meeting at 4pm today where he will propose a footnote to paragraph 1.a on the scope of diseases. The footnote reportedly will list some diseases of particular importance to Africa, but leave out killers like cancer or heart diseases, or aliaments such as asthma, a disease that affects more than 10 percent of African population, according to the WHO.

If true, this is an astonishing development, as Supachai is siding with PhRMA and the US against developing countries that have united on the scope of disease issue.
