EU supports US on scope, US supports EU on safeguards

December 13, 2002

Yesterday, in an informal group meeting, with the TRIRS council chair present, the EU vocally supported US concerns on scope of diseases, and the US vocally supported the EU on safeguards.

The Canadian GC chair is reportedly trying to replace the Mexican TRIPS council chair as the broker for a deal, reflecting US concerns that Motta is not sufficiently responsive to PhRMA interests.

The EU, which is planning its own "community" patent for the EU, is reportedly opposing a regional license for importing in Africa. Wow.
