Subject: Contracts on Internet: Invite to E-Commerce Roundtable Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2000 10:27:00 -0400 From: Vergil Bushnell Organization: Consumer Project on Technology To: jspotilla@omb.eop.gov CC: asquires@omb.eop.gov Hello. My name is Vergil Bushnell, a policy analyst at the Consumer Project on Technology (CPT). CPT is a research and advocacy organization that was founded by Ralph Nader in 1995. In addition to my duties at CPT, I serve as the secretary for the newly formed Washington, D.C. E-commerce Roundtable. The Roundtable is a monthly forum for the discussion of e-commerce policy issues. Previous Roundtables have been attended by consumer advocates, academics, members of the e-commerce press and representatives of the Federal Trade Commission, Federal Communications Commission, and Departments of Commerce and State. Topics discussed at the Roundtable have included the future Hague Convention on International Jurisdiction and the Effects of Judgements in Civil and Commercial Matters, ICANN and internet domain name disputes and online privacy. CPT contacted your office last February concerning the Ralph Nader/ CPT proposal to put government contracts on the Internet. I am writing today to invite you to come to the July meeting of the E-commerce Roundtable to discuss your office's role in e-commerce, and the placing of government contracts on the Internet. The date for the July Roundtable has not been formally set, and we would be happy to arrange a date that accords with your schedule. More information about the E-commerce Roundtable (including notes and the participants of previous Roundtables) is available at www.cptech.org/ecom/Roundtable. Please do not hesitate to contact me, or CPT's director -- Jamie Love -- at 202-387-8030. Sincerely, Vergil Bushnell Consumer Project on Technology email: vbushnell@cptech.org phone: 202-387-8030
